Dr. Ira Frahmand
Dr. Ira Frahmand is a senior scientist in the Okonkwo lab at the University of Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Dr. Frahmand’s research is geared toward a detailed understanding of the anatomical and functional organization of cognitive processes with emphasis on two intersecting themes: 1) brain changes as early predictors of cognitive decline and dementia, and 2) furthering the understanding of how the link between physiological/biological changes and cognitive decline may be modulated by both modifiable (i.e., lifestyle, diet/cholesterol, weight, hormones, air pollution) and non-modifiable (i.e., genetic vulnerability/resilience) factors. Her training and research approach emphasize the importance of human and non-human animal research informing one another, and the power of translational research. Dr. Frahmand approach is multidisciplinary and committed to providing clinically relevant outcomes with a goal of aiding the early identification of individuals at risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and strategies for mitigating the risk.
