Dr. Iliya Lefterov

Dr. Iliya Lefterov is a Research Professor in Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. With an MD from the Medical Academy in Sofia and a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics, he has trained at leading institutions including the University of Copenhagen, University of Göttingen, and University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lefterov’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, with an emphasis on gene-environment interactions, lipid metabolism, and nuclear receptor pathways. He has co-authored numerous high-impact publications advancing the understanding of APOE, TREM2, and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
